ABS Light On? We Have the Solution!

ABS EBCM Anti-lock Brake Control Module Repair Rebuild Service by UpFix

Common ABS Issues We Can Repair:

  • Sudden ABS power loss
  • Faulty wheel sensor codes
  • Missing signals from wheel speed sensor
  • ABS relay codes
  • ABS pump is continually running
  • No communication with scan tool
  • Wheel speed sensor codes
  • Other ABS/EBCM control module issues

The ABS module is a likely culprit if your vehicle’s ABS light is on. If that’s the case, ABS module repair cost is typically lower than ABS module replacement cost. You can refer to an abs module diagram to see where your ABS Control Module is located, but in most cases, you will find it in the engine compartment. It is connected to your vehicle’s master cylinder by way of hydraulic lines.

How an ABS System Works

The ABS System consists of three main sections: 1) ABS Pump: An electric motor pumps fluid to maintain hydraulic fluid pressure in the braking system. 2) Hydraulic Unit: Sometimes called the ABS Modulator, the hydraulic unit contains valves that open and close to vary brake pressure at each wheel. Modern designs feature 3-4 valves per wheel. Brake lines distribute pressurized fluid to each wheel. 3) ABS Module: The brains of the system, the ABS module is an electronic unit that opens and closes the hydraulic valves many times per second based on signals from wheel speed sensors. Cylindrical magnets within the module push and pull on the metal valves in the hydraulic unit.

Common issues and basic testing

If your vehicle’s ABS unit is faulty, you will likely see an ABS warning light illuminated on the dash and possibly the traction control warning light as well. You may be hearing the ABS pump motor running all the time. With respect to driving, you may experience wheel lock up during hard braking, increased stopping distance and or reduced brake “feel". There are external issues such as a power supply problems or bad wheel speed sensors. Internal issues include stuck valves and faulty electronics module. Try to rule out external issues such as low fluid, a blown fuse or bad wheel speed sensors before removing your ABS unit. If possible, connect a code scanner to your vehicle and read the DTC codes. You can convey those codes with us during the order process. UpFix lists common DTC codes for each vehicle on UpFix.com.

Is Your ABS Anti-Lock Brake Pump Always Running?

A failing module will drain your battery. Remove the ABS fuse to prevent ABS motor burn out. You can still drive your vehicle with the module removed. We recommend covering the exposed surface of the hydraulic control unit with aluminum foil to keep out water and dirt.

The braking system is made up of the ABS module and the ABS sensors. The ABS system is responsible for helping to prevent the car’s wheels from locking during intense braking. The sensors, on the other hand, work to detect the speed of the wheels and send signals to the module to pump the brakes when the vehicle is skidding or loses traction. This means that a malfunctioning ABS module could cause your vehicle to skid or hydroplane under heavy braking. While an ABS/EBCM anti-lock control module repair may appear to be a daunting and overwhelming task, when you trust the ABS control module experts at UpFix, repairs are fast and easy.

Remove the ABS fuse to prevent the ABS motor from burning out, and then send the module to UpFix. Our car repair technicians will be able to quickly and accurately diagnose the problem, repair it, and send it back to you.
